Uncle Dale & Aunt Nisha Visit Woodpile:
Sat Jam #1 The Holly wood correspondent UD himself rolled up to my driveway
late Sat. morning. Nisha showed me a ring on her finger! Wow they are gonna
get.....well you know the "M" word! This is cool cause the bed spread in
the guest room has a wedding ring pattern on the quilt.
After swapping howdys over a bowl of Jeff R's gumbo the guests started a droppin in. First was
Jeff M. It did not take long for the Jammin' to commence. Other Jammers to arrive
were Jughead, Jack D. Lance and Rob G. Songs were Boppin' the Blues, 3X7 by
Jeff R.and Moondance with Lance on Flute (Moondance should have been
recorded! a keeper). JD sang It's all over now (jeff r. played piano while
lance traded for the guitar) & Last Time by the Stones. JD is playin' the 6
string guitar real cool these days. Jughead played bass while the
Uncle took a beer break. The real highlight was a couple of Uncle
Dales original numbers including, I had a Dog.
The guests in the ding room with Nisha were Manuela, Roberta and Bryce G. Along with any jammers that were
on a union break! We departed for Morrisson's for real fine appetizers but lost
Jughead en route!
Sunday Jam #2: Football was on the Tube and some acoustic music was played
by Jeff R. while Jeff M and Dale worked on some on the computer printing
out some of Dales pics from live gigs in L.A. Pretty soon Frog and Rob come
over. Dale seemed to get a second wind when Gene appeared. Jam # 2 is Set &
Roddy did And it Stoned me by Van the man Morrisson and All Along the
Watchtower. The Frogmeister Sang Little Sister (of course) Red Cadillac, La
Grange and What a way to Go. Dale did Rooster Hill (yes!) and a couple
other from his past recordings . There was a real Impromptu version of Pour me
another Cup of Coffee, then Hey Joe and Franklin's Tower, Truckin'
and Don't Let That Deal go Down.
It was a great weekend thanks to all who came to share in Food, fun and
music one more time And a big congratulations to Dale & Nisha on
their engagement!

"A Tribute to Robert Johnson"
Jeff,
To say the least it was a very diverse evening there were no
Rolling Stone sightings unfortunately, but it didn't really matter.
the acts I saw were f'n great!! Every one rose to the occasion and gave it there best.
No two acts were the same and that says a lot for the owner who put the show together.
There was a little bit of nervousness at the beginning of the night when the fire marshall showed up,but luckily most of the
crowd hadn't yet. They love to shut down clubs that are over the capacity in people!
Also some of the people who played only did one song which left big holes in the show, but it still was a
very special night and I'm very proud to say I was a part of it.
My two songs were received very well. I did "Dead shrimp blues" and the one by
Leonard Cohen that's on my "Tell'n Stories" tape
"Winter Lady".
I got asked to play at a blues review that some radio celeb does once a month at a place in
Hollywood called Jacks Sugar Shack! I'll fill you in on more when
I find out more.
By the way I still have about a hundred or so
"Tell'n Stories" tapes left if any one wants one there only 5
bucks and if you order two the third one is free!!
Just e-mail me at daleneisha@earthlink.net
Also this show was video taped and is going to be shown on highland grounds web site
www,highlandgrounds.com
I believe there was mention on it actually being on there record label site highland sounds . if you go to
the H. G. first I'm sure you'll find it from themmmmm.
uncle dale

I requested a review on the CD from Uncle Dale....here it
is......(jkr)
out in the midwest california town of woodland there is a group of
middle aged dudes that have been playing music for over 25 years now. they've all played at one time or another
with each other in some band or another and i for one am also guilty of this incestuous debauchery!! (but not as
of lately) the core of this group of string bang'n whores have been sunday
jam'n a little over a year now at an exclusive club that i can't reveal the name of cause roddy doesn't want the cops
to know. they've been recording the jams and as a result have put out a cd titled THE SUNDAY JAMMERS
LIVIN' ROOM SET.
18 traks in all this cd covers a very wide variety of rock, blues, country and some jazz. the featured/dominant players
are jeff matthews on lead guitars , jeff roddy on guitar, bass, vocals
and anything he can muster the will to play. the whole thing starts off innocently enough with a jazzy blues thing
called "jazzy thing" w/j.matthews on lead then rolls right into a slow blues song w/retrospec gene avrill on
vocals called "night time is the right time" both he and matthews trade off on some tasty leads that really make the song fun.
next is a double header that starts off with matthews again at the instrumental helm and half way through j. roddy
starts sing'n "milk cow blues" i had to do a double take 'cause at first i thought j. garcia was sing'n! next is another
inst. w/matthews called "blind in one eye" by now i'm think'n this aint that bad a recording (considering it was
done on a
4-trk !!) and along comes avrill sing'n"lil' sister" and roddy sing'n "no expectations" to cement that
thought. the next three are inst. starting w/lance beem doing a slide guitar
thing followed buy matthews playing a stripper sounding thing that has to be heard to be believed that goes into a
country jazz piece.
"waiting for a train" is by far my favorite song that roddy does on this whole cd. there was a time when jeff r. sang that i
would not be responsible for my actions. (think you know what i mean)
this is followed by yet two more inst. featuring j.m. on lead guitar.
"kansas city/hey,hey,hey " is sung buy steve amaral who also plays
guitar along with john dickel, matthews ,roddy and gary nusz on bass. "bad boy" is sung by jay pierstorff with the same players
and both traks are great ! the next two are a couple of ccr songs. the first "hey tonight" sung by
dickel, and the second "run through the jungle" sung by pierstorff, are as authentic as it gets!! these 4 rockers are in a
space of there own and come just at the right time.
and just when you thought matthews had already done it all, along comes "sleepwalk" w/ rob gonzalas on bass and roddy on
guitar . very nice, sweet, heavenly, angelic........ then comes the
finale trak w/ roddy sing'n tom thumb's blues sounding like dylan would.
this is a very loose, fun , mellow cd and i hope they continue to keep
it rolling .
i'm sorry i wasn't there this time around and you can bet that wont
happen again!! also i almost forgot to mention that bryce gonzales played bass on
waiting for a train and jim "kid" curry played on all the traks
with percussion.
until next time this your correspondent from L.A. Uncle dale
