The January
2 Jam Review
JAM # 39 REVIEW: Yes Sir! this was the 39th Jam. Polish Dogs, Chicken wings and cake were served in the kitchen.
A lot of blues and some oldies were served in the Front room where the Jammers got
creative. The Jammers this time
included Jughead, Jeff Matthews, John Mathews Rob Gonzalez Jeff R and Mark Gonzales (making his jam come back)
We were a little short in the vocal Dept., but managed to have fun with Mark G & Jeff R. sharing the singing.) Some
new songs included Midnight hour, Turn on your Love light, Stone me & Moondance
by Van
Morrison. And the off the wall surprise Folsom Prison Blues. The Johnny Cash song came off really cool with Mark & Jeff R. sharing the vocals.
Later in the day we played some old Stones and Jeff's brother Brian made his Jam debut with his new Xmas Strat Jeff R
even played lead guitar on Johnny B. Goode while Jeff M was on a lunch break. It was a fun day. Other guest were
Toka, who threw out some requests to keep the Jammers on their toes and Manuela who was a Saint for cleaning
Jeff's kitchen, Thank You so much!
23 Polish Dogs were consumed by the Jammers and guests This comes out to about 3.5 Dogs per guest! How could
they have room for the cake? Somehow they did! Door prizes were awarded to Mark G. ( Fender Shirt) Jughead (wine)
and Manuela (UC Davis Art Dept. Shirt). Mark got his Official Sun Jammer Framed Certificate in a very emotional
ceremony. There were no dry eyes in the house! Brian R. is due for his certificate next time at Jam # 40.
Rumor has it Toka will be the guest chef (will it be Mexican Food????) See ya next time!

The December 5 Jam Review
Dec. 5 Jam Review: Participants for the last jam of the millennium were Jim "Kid" Curry, Dennis Mitchell, Bob Jahn,
Frog Averill. Jay Pierstorff, Jughead, Rob Gonzalez. Fred Stevens, Jeff Matthews, John Matthews and Jeff R.
Wow! what a great day! A huge variety of tunes went down, there were some of our regular numbers but also a lot of fresh
stuff thanks to Fred for some new Beatles songs ( Run for Your life and
Girl) I also really enjoyed Fred's Dire Straits song ( So Far Away). And Bob favored us with some real cool Doobie Bros. Jay did some great harmonies and also
sang Rock this town. Jay always provides a very reliable rhythm guitar. Gene sang What a way to go.
Jeff R. and Jeff M. Did a fine job on Marry Christmas Baby and Walkin'
Blues. Jim Curry did Brown eyed Girl and switched off on the Elec, Drums with Dennis. At times Jim would play keyboard
percussion while Dennis played the regular pads. Rob got to try out his midi guitar stuff and pulled off some cool Sax parts!
Jughead, Fred and John M. traded off on the Bass. Each one has there own style and all are very good Bass dudes!
The Food was deli trays from Raley's and it made fine Sandwiches. We also had a cake. Door prize winners were: Jim
Curry (wine) Bryce C. ( Rivercats shirt) Jughead ( Fender Strap) , Jay (Party Poppers for new year) and Jeff M.
(Fender Shirt). the new PA is cool but feeds back when the Room gets too loud. I think we will have to keep those
guitars down next time. The decibel Police will be on patrol. The new sound speakers are operating off a Marshall Amp.
This will get replaced by a small PA mixer/ amp when funds permit. I had a blast. Happy Holidays you crazy
Jammers!

The November 7 Jam Review
Nov. 7 Jam Review: I always talk about the music first but not this time! The food was the best ever!!! Manuela and
Toka teamed up to provide a full Mexican dinner featuring: Chicken enchiladas, Beef chicana.rice and beans.
Everyone is still talking about the food! Five stars, ladies! thank you again! There are some folks wanting the
beef chicana recipe for sure.
Well there was music too and we got to here Jay do Rock n Roll Music , Kansas City and
It's all over Now (Jeff R, even played piano on the later two!) Jay brought his new turquoise Casino by Epiphone. Jeff
M. Played his new Telecaster and traded lead licks with Froggie who was test drivin' Jeff R's new Epiphone
Dot. Hey it must have been new guitar day at the Jam. Gene sang Walkin' the Dog and Night time is the Right Time.
John M. And Jughead traded off on the Bass and ol' Jughead even tried the 5 string
Carvin bass!. As if this wasn't enough John M. played the Electric drum stuff for a while. Jeff
R. sang All Along the Watch Tower while Gene and Jeff M. cooked on the
lead jams. Jeff R also did the Walkin' Blues ( Old Robert Johnson Tune) and Boppin'
the blues. I always like to hear Jeff
M. and Gene jam together....it's always very good. Jughead and John M. are great bass players too so you know the
tapes are gonna be cooool.
Hey Where were all those drummer dudes? I hope there isn't some kinda percussionist
strike or union problem! Time to go find that last enchilada in the frigitator! See ya next time!!!!

The October 3 Jam
Review
The Sunday Jammers got together once again for Fun, Food
& music. The participants were Dennis Mitchell (percussion) John Dickel (vocals, guitar, slide guitar and keyboard) Jay Pierstorff (Vocals and guitar), Jughead Nusz
(on bass) Steve Amaral (guitar and vocals) Jeff Matthews (guitar) and the return of founding member John Mathews
(bass) and I almost forgot Jeff r. ( a little guitar and little bass and a couple of vocals).
I missed the magic guitar of Gene Averill today and the rest of my friends in Retro Specs. I truly hope they make the
next one. We had a wide variety of tunes happening this after noon Steve sang "I'm Down" & " Roll over Beethoven"
both just great and Mr. Steve cut loose with John D and Jeff M on a killer blues jam ( Sounded like an instrumental
"Smokestack Lightning") these 3 lead players are very very good and a privilege to listen to in my own livin' room.
John D also gave us "Red House" and Some Tom petty stuff that was nice. Jay as always is a true professional and
played " Red Hot" and some other favorites including some neat harmony work with John D.
on... MR. TAMBOURINE MAN" John Matthews, Jeff R. and Jeff M. played "Jazzy Thang" ( first song on Sun Jam CD). Jeff r. sang "3 X 7 ( just turned 21)" and
"Boppin the Blues" Both Gary and John M. laid down excellent bass lines and Dennis M. did a SUPER JOB on those Electric drum
pads! Dennis played all day with only a short break.... Good job Dennis! Rob
G. was here early on and played guitar and keyboards before heading off to a harmonica/blues show. Rob found out later that he was a door prize winner and
received a Sun Jam T-shirt. John D. won a Fender Strat shirt and was a happy camper (or
jammer, I guess).
The Chili Beans were a big hit. Lets see its about 9:30 PM they should be just kickin' in for those Jammers brave
enough to consume them! 24 hot Dogs went down. Special thanks to Toka for the macroni salad and the cookies.
Gotta go now Sparky is out back lickin' the last of the beans right outta the bowl!

The September 5 Jam
Review
The One year birthday for the Sunday Jammers was quite a mix of different
music. We heard John Dickel sing & play his guitar on It's All Over Now, pride and Joy, Can't get enough of you Love. Bob Jahn made his first ever Sun debut
with a nice version of Secret agent man (requested by the host) Bob sang & played lead on Jeff R's Pro Tone
Strat.....good one! We hope Bob will join us next time also. The Frog-man changed the pace with a country number
called what a way to Go (Is that a Charlie Daniels tune?). Gene also sang Fortunate Sun, Red
Cadillac and a Black Mustache. Jeff r. sang and played bass on Boppin' the Blues, Shake Rattle & Roll and later on switched to guitar for
Further on up the Road ( Clapton tune).
Six Pack jack came in to add some keyboards and also sang a very
spontaneous version of Fever ( Peggy Lee Hit) with Jim C. on Electric drums, Jeff r. on
bass, Gene & Jeff M. on guitars. Hey things were pretty quiet in the
Singin' drummer dept.. Mark and kid Curry did not go to the mic. Well ok, Jim did
sing The Weight at the very end of the day with Jeff M. playin' the Bass real cool! Jeff r. played the guitar. Ooooops I
almost forgot Mark was on the bass for Little Sister! All right Mark (Gene sang that One). Jughead played the bass
most of the time (unless it was one of the Jeff's fillin' in on above mentioned
tunes). Jughead is always tight on the bass lines ya know!
Since it was our one year anniversary we had door prizes. the names of the winners were selected by Roberta Devine
from the Magic Spittoon. Mark G. won the Sun. Jammers T-shirt and john D. won the Drifters tickets ( also starring
Retro Specs).
One of the highlights was the lasagna by Manuela it was great. And for desert 2 apple pies and brownies from Toka.
Thank you ladies very much!
No one got away without autographing the Wall of Fame which displays many pics of Sunday Jammer and local band
collectables. Ah! now it was time to clean up and review the tapes while I work at
getting things back in order! The tapes are fun and never the same two jams in a
row! Sunday Jammers can stop by to hear them anytime.
See ya soon!

The August 1 Jam
Review
The CD Party was a hit. The sound was
great. Jeff M. played excellent lead as usual. Jughead and Fred shared the
bass. Newest Jammer Mark G. sang "Just My Imagination" and it
was super. Other keepers were "My Gal Is Red Hot", "Black
Magic Woman" Jay, "Red Cadillac and Black Mustache" Gene,
"Kansas City" Steve. "Ballad of John and Yoko" Jay and
Steve. Jim and Mark traded off on the new electric drums which were loaned
to the Jammer's from Steve M.
Great Burgers were barbequed by
Manuela, the guest Chef and Toka helped with the food. Thank you ladies! All
9 pounds of hamburgers eaten up!
A second Acoustic set happened on the
patio at 5:00. Rob and Lance played "The Weight" and Rob also did
some killer harmonica. Jim C. added a little bongo on "Just Like A
Rolling Stone."
A special Guest appearance by Mr. Jack
Devine capped off the Best Jam Ever!!!

The July 11
Jam Review
I had a lot of fun. Every jam is different and they just keep gettin' better! I knew the music was good but when I
played the tapes back it seemed even better than live! John Dickel, Jay Pierstorff, Jeff Matthews, Jim Curry, Gary
Nusz (and sometimes me) were the players this time. Dennis Mitchell joined us and we will get him to join in as a
player next time! Rob G. made one of those in n' out appearances for a second or two ...hey Rob I thought you were
going to the car to get your harmonicas???.
Old Beatles (Dizzy Miss Lizzy. Bad Boy, Rock n' Roll Music), CCR (Run Through the Jungle, Hey Tonight ), A
little "Red House", some Foreigner and Some ZZ Top highlighted the afternoon.
Jeff R. threw in a little Stray Cat Strut. Over in the kitchen the Chili beans went over great but I think I burnt the hell out of the Polish Dogs but they still were
consumed by fans of the well-done sausage.
The Sun-Jammers received framed membership certificates (thanks to Jughead for helping out on his magic
computer) as a small surprise. Those Jammers who did not come can also pick yours up at my house when you wish (Dennis M. will deliver to Rob & Steve A.) A Blue Moon Boys CD was a Door prize. Gary won the CD for guessing
closest to the secret number which was '3'
What a great day. Once again Manuela kept the kitchen going and even did the clean-up again making life real easy
for J.R. ooops! I almost forgot Manuela also brought a sugar free apple pie. I can't wait to sneak one more bite!
Thanks to all of the guests who came this week & I hope those who were unable to come will be here on Aug.1 It's
always a pleasure and never the same twice. Thanks again. Stay tuned to the Sun-Jam site for a chance to vote on the Aug. 1 menu.
Jeff r.
PS; Congrats to Steve Amaral who joined a another band and will continue to play with CS & Co., as well. Steve will
also take over the entertainment bookings at Ludy's (praise be!) Read more about Steve in news/gossip section of
the site!

The June 6th Jammer Review
Sunday was another fun one! It seems as though each Jam
has it' own personality Ya know! John Dickel joined the club and did a fine version of
Dizzy Miss Lizzy among other songs. Lizzy could be included in the Sun Jammers upcoming CD
called "Livin' Room Set". Good guitar, that Dickel guy can play! Speaking of fine guitarists that
can sing, Steve Amaral did some songs too. A version of Kansas City that was like the one
by the Beatles was VERY COOL also may be on the CD. Gary " Jughead" Nusz
supplied the bass...Steady as always too! Jeff Matthews is the CO-pilot of the Sunday
Jams. He's a great friend and one very great guitar player.
Thanks to Jeff & his wife for all the extra help on
Jam days! JD and Tony from Southbound made a whistle stop
during a break from their band practice. We could hear a little bit of harmonies from these
two clear from the buffet table as they got serious about the Sub sandwiches they were
going to town on. They were also AWOL from rehearsal! Dennis Mitchel (drummer
of CS & CO) stopped by and may bring a snare & do some light percussion stuff on
the next jam (July 11).
Last but not least Rob & Bryce made a "ninth
inning appearance" just in from Reno! What a day. OOOOOPS I almost forgot Jeff R.
made it through a couple of vocals OK (no one left during these songs!). Jughead played
the guitar at the end on the day while jeff r. took over the bass for a blues run &
Fever. Jeff M. makes it sound good! see ya next time
